Fat Sal's

When I come across a place that is unique in its style to making something simple, I'm all for it! A friend recommended Fat Sal's to me and I thought, why not! When I got to this small outdoor dive of a place I was very excited. This is the type of place you KNOW is going to be good. The menu took up a whole wall and let me tell you, what exotic combinations to put on a sandwich! After about ten minutes of deciding what I was going to order I decided on the Fat Joey. What's in the Fat Joey, I'm sure you are wondering...well it has, Pastrami, Turkey, Melted Swiss, Cole Slaw, Fries, Russian Dressing all on a Hero. The best, most flavorful, delicious sandwich I have had in a long time! The Russian dressing and Cole slaw were such a great flavorful addition to this sandwich. To top it off the sandwich was huge! I brought half home for lunch the next day and it still tasted great. I ordered the seasoned fries which came with Fat Sauch, which was SO delicious. My friend ordered the Fat Jerry which includes; Cheese steak, Chicken fingers, Motzerella sticks, Crisp bacon, Fried egg, Fries, Mayo, Ketchup, Salt & Pepper all on a hero. She was extreamly satisfied with her choice of sandwitch as well. She ordered the cheese fries which had crispy melted chedder cheesse ontop, also a good eat. These are just two of thier any choices on the menu. You can create your own combination sandwitch as well! A fun thing Fat Sals has is the Big Fat Fatty challenge. The sandwitch is$23.95 and if eaten whole, within 20 minutes, it's free! As well as you get to create your own Fat sandwitch to be added to the menu. Let me give you an idea about whats in the Big Fat Fatty; Cheese steak, cheeseburger, pastrami, chicken fingers, bacon, motzerella sticks, fried eggs, jalapeno poppers, fries, onion rings, chilli, marinara, fat sauce, all on an 18' garlic hero. Wow!

So if you are ever in the UCLA area and are hungry for a good sandwitch, Fat Sal's is the place! Come hungry and ready to try something crazy! Dont be a baby and get a turkey sandwich! You can go to Subway for that! Here at Fat Sal's its about the experience of trying something new and probably unhealthy, but hey! It's well worth it!

Kitchen 24

It's not very often you can find a 24 hour diner that actually serves good food. Most of them have limited menu choices late at night and well lets be honest, the foods not that great. When I came upon Kitchen 24 I was skeptical at first. I was thinking a Denny's style diner. Let me tell you, I was very wrong. Kitchen 24 is located in Hollywood and I almost drove right past it on my way there. It is a small cheque restaurant. The inside decor is very pink and cute. Mood lighting and full bar. The menu is large and the food was delicious!! There were so many options to choose from and everyone around us had great looking food in front of them. I was very pleased with my order. I got the create your own Macaroni, which was more like a gourmet pasta than macaroni. For a 24 hour diner I am very impressed and would recommend this place to everyone! I must also recommend their dessert! I ordered the cookie, which is much like the famous Pazookie... but better! Yes I said it, BETTER than the Pazookie!! So if you are ever up late, or heck just hungry...give this place a try!!

The Stand

Who does not love a hamburger and hotdog joint? I know I love a good American styled burger place when I find one! And The Stand is just that place! With non traditional options you have fun new ways to try your burgers and hotdogs. Order your food at the front and grab a seat, a small wait but the food is made to order, and is hot on delivery to your table. You have an option for a side of home made chips or house slaw. The chips are great! The sweet potato fry are a must try as well, and a substitution for the chips or slaw. I also recommend the hot dogs and the desserts are to die for! They sell a variety of beer and other drinks. Monday night The Stand offers dollar dog night which is a great deal for some good food! They also offer a discount card which helps save you some money and gives you special offers with your purchases. The Stand also offers a variety of other things on their menu such as, salads, chicken sandwiches sausages, a variety of sides, breakfast options, and the list goes on. With several locations around the LA area this place is a got to try spot!

Fab Dogs

Fab Dogs is a little hole in the wall hot dog place that has the most extensive hot dog menu I've ever seen. The hot dogs are inexpensive, and worth the price. I discovered this place when watching the Food Network, it was featured on the show Diners, Drove-ins and Dives. It's off of Tampa right after Vanowen. Since it's such a tiny place, the crowd gets huge fast! You can walk in and have it be completely empty, and within minutes it will become packed. The service there is pretty decent and the people working there are very friendly. All in all, this place is definitely worth a trip to! The hot dogs were very tasty and you have options in how you want them coked. The tator tots are selicious and a must try with your order! I also suggest getting two hot dogs. because sometimes one is just not enough!

Guido's Pizza and Pasta

Nothing like an Italian dining experience while being no where near Italy. At Guido's you can taste the deliciousness of Italy in every bite. If you are hungry for some real Italian food, skip the line at Olive Garden and come hungry here. I ordered the pepperoni pizza which tasted amazing. The cheese had a fresh flavor and the sauce was great. The dough was fluffy and had a home baked taste. You can't experience this flavor anywhere else. My friend ordered a sandwich which she agreed had a flavorful home made taste to it. A must try if you are ever in the area! On the corner of Sherman way and Winnetka you will find this quaint little place. A home like feel inside, with very friendly staff, you can dine in or take out. Prices are great and the selection is huge. Everything made to order! There are lunch specials during the week at great prices and catering is available. Their pizza is a must try and the sandwiches are delicious!

Millions of Milkshakes

One of my favorite places I have been to so far would be Millions of Milkshakes. What a simple concept, a milkshake, any way you could ever imagine it made. Why has this not been done before?! Centered in West Hollywood this place is a hot spot for celebrity sightings. The menu includes picks from your favorite celebrity's, such as the Miley Cyrus, which includes Vanilla ice cream, cookie dough, and Reese's peanut butter cups topped with whipped cream. There are millions of options to choose from! Millions of Milkshakes offers vegan shakes as well as soy options instead of dairy. And if there is none on the menu that satisfy your needs than you can create your own!!

The atmosphere is very hip. With three flat screen t.v.'s showing highlights from TMZ, Twitter, and a video showing all the celebrity's that have visited Millions of Milkshakes. This place is known for its famous visitors and makes you feel like you are a star. With constant Twitter updates you can track which celeb just might be on their way to Millions of Milkshakes. If you are ever in the area or want to make the trip I highly suggest visiting this place.

Brents Deli

Who does not love some good old fashion comfort food? There is nothing like going to a deli when you are hungry for something you know has been passed down by someones great grandma. Brent's Deli has two great locations, there is one in Northridge and Westlake Village. Both locations have plenty of seating and can accommodate large groups. This in one of my favorite places to indulge in with my family. The atmosphere feels like I'm home enjoying my food with loved ones. The selection on the menu is huge! There are many things to choose from for any craving to satisfy. The portions at Brent's are huge and the food is delicious.

If you are experiencing Brent's Deli for the first time, may I suggest trying any of the typical "Jewish foods." This is what most delis are famous for. The Matzo ball soup is outstanding as well as their sandwich selections. The fish plates, such as the lox and bagels, white fish salad sandwich and white fish platter (pictured above) are all delicious tastes of the deli culture. When I'm at Brent's I know I'm eating a meal that is freshlyy prepared and never frozen. The desserts are amazing and I'm always leaving with leftovers!

Ghirardelli

They say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, well I would have to disagree! Ghiradelli Ice Cream and Chocolate shop is by far the happiest place on earth!! Who does not love chocolate and ice cream? Why not get both from one of the most luxurious chocolate makers around. At Ghiradelli you feel like you are in an old fashioned ice cream parlor. With huge portions of ice creams and other sweets to choose from, you order up front and take a seat while waiting for your sweet treat to be delivered to you. The best part is that all the ice creams have touches of chocolate from Ghiradelli!! Hot, rich, melted chocolate drizzled over the ice cream of your choice... ya can't beat that. If you ever get the chance to visit one of Ghiradelli's 14 locations you have to make sure you try one of their ice creams. The portions are enough to share, that is if you allow your friend to even get a bite in. The picture shown is warm melted chocolate and peanut butter over three scoops of ice cream, topped with fresh made whipped cream, nuts, and Ghiradelli chocolate, topped off with a cherry served in a chilled dish. I love this place because one, I love sweets and what I just described was the BEST ice cream experience in the world and two, everything is so fresh tasting and delicious! There is a unique taste to Ghiradelli's ice cream that your local ice cream shop can't compare to!

Fish and Chips

I had to take a double take when I drove by this Fish and Chips place in Northridge. It was the big yellow sign that caught my eye, it read... "FISH AND CHIPS, Original English F&C" If you have ever made it out to England, you know that Fish and Chips is the UK's specialty! Located on Devonshire and Reseda next to Shakeys you will find this quaint place. Inside was pretty small and had two "mom and pop" workers. Prices were extreamly reasonable and the portions were good. Now, this is not the place to come if you are starving and do not want to wait. I ordered the three piece fish and chips, and it took about thirteen minuets to get my food. The lag in the time is because everything is made fresh to order. The fish is battered and fried, right on the spot as ordered. It was well worth the wait! The fish tasted fresh as well as the fries. The fish was battered to crispy golden perfection, and not once did I feal like I was eating something that was fried. The tartar sauce was excelent! One of the best I have ever tasted by far (and I have tried a fair share). I was also given a cold bottle of ketchup, malt vinigar and salt if desired. The meu was small but included fish and chips lunch specials, family size deals, calamari, oysters, clams, onion rings, fried mushrooms and more. If you are ever in the mood for some Fish and Chips, I recomend this place! Just make sure you have cash because they do not accept cards.

Yummy Cupcakes

There is nothing better than a cupcake. Who does not love a little slice of cake with a whole lot of frosting? Best part is you can have one in almost any flavor and there is no guilt when eating one! At Yummy Cupcakes in Burbank & Santa Monica, you can choose from over 185 different cupcakes. Each day of the week has its own featured flavors as well. Such flavors you can choose from include, Pancakes n' Bacon, Frozen Banana, Guinness, Cream Puff, Mocha, Rocky Road, and all the traditional flavors you can think of. To see a full list of their flavors check out the website! Yummy Cupcakes has four different sizes of cupcakes to choose. Starting with their mini size, next is classic than jumbo. Yummy Cupcakes last size is in a jar. Yes in a jar! The cupcake is now a jar-cake; layers of cake frosting and toppings are stacked into a jar for easy gifting, shipping, and fun eating.

I heard about Yummy Cupcakes from watching the Food Network. One afternoon I headed down there with a friend to be pleasantly delighted with the selection of cupcakes I had to choose from. The cupcakes looked too cute to eat! After spending a good ten minutes deciding which one I wanted to buy, and a little fight with an angry lady in line behind me, I bought a few different ones to try, and enjoyed every bite. The cake was a little on the dry side, but the frosting made up for it! I'm very picky when it comes to cupcake frosting and this was by far my favorite place for cupcakes. Not too sweet and not to sugary. It was just the right amount of sweet that a cupcake needs. If you are ever around a Yummy Cupcakes shop try one out for yourself!

The Counter

Hold the pickles! Hold the lettuce! How many times have you told your server the custom way you would like your burger made, and they still mess it up!? Adding extra cheese will cost you extra money, stingy fast food places only give out one ketchup packet these days and your meat is never cooked the way you like it. Lets face it, finding a good burger these days is pretty hard to do.

Want a hamburger that is truly made your way? Try eating at The Counter. Here is a place that knows what it is like to make that burger lover in all of us come out and stay out. Upon your arrival to your seat you are handed a clip board with over 312,120+ different combination for you to choose from, so you can create that perfect burger! Don't believe me? Check out The Counter website! The clipboard is a fun way to choose what you do and do not want on your hamburger. Plenty of sauces for you to try, your meat cooked any way you like, extra toppings, they even have a burger in a bowl!! Each month there is a featured burger, sauce and topping to try. The french fries are amazing, and one order is enough to share with three people! There is a wide variety of beers on tap, as well as wine, shakes and sodas. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a real burger experience.

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant

Its hard to find a good sushi place these day. There is a sushi restaurant on every corner, but how do you decide which one to go to. All these thought start running through your head, making your heart race and your palms sweaty just trying to decide; is the fish fresh, is it expensive, am I going to smell like fried fish when I leave, what are their hours, will they have what I like, can I bring my date here or does it look like an old mans bar on the inside? These are all thought I am sure you have pondered while deciding where to go for sushi.

One of my favorite places to enjoy sushi is at Kabuki Japanese Restaurant. They have a wide variety of sushi to choose from for reasonable prices. Not that into eating sushi? Well at Kabuki there is a large assortment of Japanese entrees to choose from. The atmosphere is very enjoyable and the decor' is hip with a Japanese fusion. Kabuki is a great place to eat with friends or that special someone. Staff is quick and friendly, and hours are great. I enjoy their sushi because it tastes fresh, there are always new items on the menu to try out, and they have a great happy hour. So next time you want to grab some sushi, think about trying out Kabuki Japanese Restaurant to satisfy your cravings!

Pinkberry

The newest craze that has hit the South land, Frozen Yogurt! Better for you than ice cream, and as common to see these days as a gas station, you can find one at almost any corner. One of the more trendy spots to get your frozen yogurt fix is a place called Pinkberry. With their own catchy theme song, "P-I-N-K-B-E-R-R-Y-!" why not let this be your new favorite place too?! Pinkberry offers flavors such as Original, Green tea, Pomegranate, Coconut, and their newest flavor Chocolate! Pinkberry has over 24 toppings to choose from, ranging from fresh fruit selections to cereal, candy, cookies, nuts and more. Pinkberry has a new feature that they are offering, and that is delivery. With a purchase of $10 or more they will gladly deliver your frozen yogurt to your house or party.

I love going to Pinkberry for its hip atmosphere. My favorite flavor is their Pomegranate, with fresh strawberries and chocolate chips for a topping. The staff is very friendly and I would recommend to anyone to try this place out! I recently entered a contest at Pinkberry and won a party for me and fifteen of my friends. Pinkberry hosted everything in their shop. They gave us samples of some of their more popular toppings, and a mini sized Pinkberry yogurt for everyone. It was a great time to have my friends together and bond over some frozen yogurt. If you check out their web site, you will find locations, hours and what you can expect on your visit to Pinkberry .

Helloooo LA

It has been an idea of mine to have a food blog for all the amazing, different, and not so great places I have eaten at throughout the Los Angeles area. I hope you enjoy this as much as I will.
